Key structural bone: The Navicular bone is a key bone in the overall structure of the midfoot. Unlike a metatarsal stress fracture which often can rely on the other metatarsal to the brunt of the stress from weightbearing, there is only one navicular and it's articulation is key in supporting the arch of the foot.

Not accurate: I would not necessarily say that fractures of the navicular bone is "worse" than other fractured of the foot. What it comes down to is the likelihood of poor outcome makes a fracture more "serious", and so severe fractures of the calcaneus, talus, tarsal bones can all potentially cause poor outcomes and as such are taken very seriously.
