6 months = 2 long.: Typically, tears of the anterior talofibular ligament respond very well to non-surgical treatment. An appropriate period in immobility and subsequent physical therapy are usually adequate. If after 6 months, you are still having pain and instability of the ankle, then perhaps it's time for another look to given to the injured ligament and the old injury.
