Abdominal wall veins: Bulging abdominal wall veins are abnormal and the cause is usually due to a blocked vein in another location such as the pelvis. The veins that form on the abdominal wall are called collateral veins and are alternative channels for the blood to flow when the main channels are compromised. Liver problems, clots in veins and even tumors can lead to vein forming on the abdominal wall. See a vein MD.
