It is likely that an active epileptic focus would be uncovered with a routine 45-50 minute EEG, but not guaranteed. If an abnormality is not found, an ambulatory EEG of 72-96 hours would be far more accurate and conclusive. Generalized seizures typically are accompanied by tachycardia.
