Nerve irritation?: Both the trigeminal and glossopharyngeal nerves supply sensation to the tongue. If there is irritation, inflammation or compression of either one, you can experience tingling without any visible findings. A mild burning of the tongue from hot food or liquids may cause abnormal sensation without visible signs. If it persists, or worsens or if other symptoms occur, see your doctor.
