Normal: Herpes is the causative agent for cold sores; as such, the vast majority of people will be hsv positive for at least one serotype (usually hsv 1). If you get immunosuppressed, it can reactivate and disseminate and cause problems like hsv infections of the eye or brain, but like i said, the vast majority of people are fine.

Common: This viral infection is common and tends not to cause too many problems overall. There can be some residual issues, but typically not affecting the immune system.
