Eardrum less mobile: When there is an infection in the middle ear, fluid builds up and the eardrum cannot move as well. It is the vibration of the eardrum that enables us to hear. The fluid in the middle ear decreases the ability of the eardrum to vibrate causing hearing to be sensitive and muffled.
