Probably: This can be a complicated question, but in general if the front teeth are in contact it can cause excess wear and chips. Your acid stomach can speed the process. If this is the situation a night guard will not make a difference. If you are seeing changes in your front teeth, this is most likely the reason.

Of course: This is how teeth get chipped. It has been my experience that the grinding of the teeth and the gradual thinning of the enamel starts the process, then the direct force of top vs. Bottom teeth actually has the tooth chip. These patients that grind may need an occlusal guard.
