Autonomic dysfunctio: Autonomic dysfunction (AD) can cause rapid heartrates & blood pressure though going much beyond about 100-120 would be something that I should think is rare. Getting to 180 BPM for AD is tougher. The condition of Postural Orthostatic Hypotension can also get accelerations in heart rate but again, faster than about 120 is probably tougher just based on POTS. Cardiologist needed: This would be a cardiac problem, not neurological. This could be a serious condition. Please see a your doctor for a referral to a cardiologist as soon as possible. It would be good to avoid caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and decongestants until the problem is resolved.
