A member asked:

My wbc is 15.3 and my sed rate is 46, dr did iron studies not sure what it means: fe 51, tibc 332, sat% 15, ferritin 53, iron stain- neg for iron?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bone marrow done: You're iron-deficient. Absent stainable marrow iron satisfies me. The sed rate means nothing. You may occasionally pop an iron-pill or eat a steak. This raises serum iron slightly. You need to find the cause of your iron deficiency. If it's not your monthly loss or ill-advised vegetarianism, a search for a source for blood loss needs to be undertaken.
