It doesn't always: Have to be the samething and hence should be checked out. You could have varicosities there that swell, you can have issues with your peroneal tendons etc, it may be wise to have an MRI scheduled after you play ball.....incidently you did not mention if it was painful.....

SPRAIN?: Since you participate in sports, could someone have hit it or kicked it? Sometimes during the activity, you can get injured but really don't notice it until later. Is it a contact sport like football or soccer? If it's not improving, you should see a podiatrist or foot/ankle/sports medicine orthopedist. Sincerely, Dr. Latva
