Depends on type: of hiatal hernia (sliding or paraesophageal), size, presence of esophageal reflux, and your symptoms. In the majority of cases, small to moderate hiatal hernias cause mild to moderate reflux symptoms, easily controlled with antacids, H2 blockers, and PPIs. The most important finding in your case is that there is no other worrisome finding on EGD.
