Will otc nexium24hr help acid reflux caused by hiatal hernia? i currently take 300 mg of zantac qd and it helps very little, if at all.

The two are very: different drugs.. Zantac an H-2 blocker blocks the acid at the "target" and is effective for some people NEXIUM stops the acid from being released altogether...the latter is usually more effective in relieving reflux but takes longer..Get on it and be patient..about a week should result in improvement in almost 100% people! Persist w/ Rx X 2wk: Refractory GER occurs if: poor compliance; inadequate proton-pump inhibitors dosage; incorrect diagnosis; comorbidities; genotypic differences; NERD . multiple defects in the antireflux barrier must be present and the two main sphincters, the crural diaphragm, or hiatus, and the lower esophageal sphincter, must both be incompetent for reflux to occur. Start,Nexium 20mg in AM before breakfast.
