When the patient's : condition is stable, if the level of cognitive & motor functions allow, a neuropsychological evaluation can pinpoint areas of deficits. Before discharge home or to a rehab facility, serial neurological evaluations & neuroimaging, e.g., MRI's, are done to assess functional levels & any anatomical changes in the brain from hypoxemia, low oxygen. History of prior functioning is important.
