Gingival abscess: A gum abscess usually requires treatment; otherwise it can worsen and result in the destruction of the surrounding tissue. See your dentist for evaluation and treatment.

Bump: A bump like you d scribe can be an abscess, or infection. There may not be any pain but this is something that is important to get treated. Without treatment this can only get worse and you may end up loosing the tooth.. See a dentist ASAP.

Hard or soft ?: How long has it been there? Painful to touch? Condition of tooth? Any periodontal problems? Your age? Answers to these questions would help in giving you meaningful advice. See a local dentist.

Any: Any pain and/or bleeding and/or (as in your case) swelling should be immediately investigated. Most probable cause for situation you describe is infection (tooth, gum, both) that will not self-heal. This can damage surrounding structures and spread to other organ systems. Please call your Dentist for examination, differential diagnosis, and treatment or referral to specialist.
