Sometimes when i sleep, i cant wakeup .i was totally aware of my surroundings , i could hear sounds , i mean i was awake but i could not move..why?

Sleep paralysis: This is not uncommon. It is called sleep paralysis and can occur as you are sinking into deeper sleep, or waking up from a deeper level of sleep. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis

Sleep: sleep occurs in stages 1-4; stage1-light sleep stage2 ,then stage 3--known as Delta wave sleep then stage 4: which is know as REM sleep-rapid eye movement REM sleep is also referred to as paradoxical sleep because while the brain and other body system become more active, the muscles become relaxed in this stage dreaming occurs,but voluntary muscles become paralyzed You were in REM sleep
