Dx of tinnitus: or "ringing in ears" is based on clinical evaluation and audiometry. Also- studies, such as auditory brainstem responses, otoacoustic emissions, and neuroimaging may be necessaty .Treatment is challenging as tinnitus is a symptom, not a disease. Intervention depends on treating the underlying cause. In your case- persistent ringing after loud stimuli may indicate damage and requires workup.

Varies: It can last a few days on average. Sometimes can last for weeks to months. If it goes on longer than a month see your doctor and you may need a referral to an ENT doctor. wear ear plugs next time :)
