Tolerance.: If taken regularly, tolerance develops and then it can stop working. The key is to take it only when really needed and not as a routine every night.

Many: Zolpidem or Ambien (zolpidem) is a short acting sleeping med which often doesn't make someone tired. So you need to go to bed right after taking. People have fallen going for a walk waiting for it to take effect. Sleep walking, eating at night and amnesia is more common than realized. If you don't go to bed, after an hour or so it won't work. I see tolerance and insomnia on stopping which can last days.
