TIME OUT !: It is not unusual for fluid to be retained and persist for a few weeks after the germs have been killed off.With several antibiotics over 6 wks it is time to leave it alone for a while and see if the fluid clears on it's own. If fluid persists, the ENT could open the drum and put in a ventilation tube but that is an aggressive move and rarely needed in adults.
