IUGR: The answer depends on the cause of the IUGR. But most cases have no specific causes and the child is normal without any complications from this.

Fetal, placental : &/or maternal disorders can cause IUGR. Evaluation for the cause is needed if birth head circumference is <5th %ile &/or physical/neurological abnormalities exist. The same nurse should measure the head the same way each visit. Standardized developmental screening tools should be used. If concerns arise, referrals to an Early Intervention Program & a developmental pediatrician are needed.
