Various Reasons: Zoloft (generic sertraline) is an effective medication used in the treatment of a number of psychiatric conditions including depression, anxiety, panic disorder and ocd to name a few. Depending upon the diagnosis the length of treatment will vary. For example when treating depression the average time is one year. For ocd it may be many years. With long-term use no problems have been identified.

No: Long term ssris are not associated with increased cancer risk; many people are on long term ssri therapy for various reasons. The main reason people try to quit zoloft (sertraline) is usually just not wanting to take medications. If you have tolerated it this long, you should be fine.
