Thyroid tests normal. have swelling in thyroid gland on one side. getting ultrasound done. what r the chances it is cancer?

Very low chance: It is not really possible to state with certainty whether you have cancer or not, let's get that out of the way first. However, for ALL patient's getting evaluated for thyroid nodules (which you may or may not have), 95% are NOT cancer, but rather simple functional or non-functional cysts and nodules. Take a deep breath, have your ultrasound, and it's very likely everything will be fine.

Low: only 5-8% chance that a thyroid nodule is malignant so the most likely outcome is that you a have a benign lesion(s)

Thyroid cancer: The chance of you having thyroid cancer is relatively low but not unheard of. Follow your doctors advice and have this checked out. Best of luck.
