By location: The heart's location is sufficiently the same in the chest cavity of most adults that the pulsation from the tip/apex can be palpated/felt.Trace a line down the chest from the mid-point of the collar bone (mid-clavicular line) and then feel between the ribs. The apex of the heart is between the 5th and 6th ribs (5th intercostal space). An left parasternal lift, for example, is felt by the sternum!
