Over the counter: There are many over the counter treatments for constipation. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is one that is very gentle. Milk of Magnesia is popular. Magnesium citrate is very potent for severe cases. An enema can be used if nothing else works.

Constipation: This can be a troublesome problem after giving birth. Drinking lots of water, fruits and vegetables are good to help soften the stools. Ask your OB for a recommended stool softener as well. An in home stool softener you can use easily is plain mineral oil, one tablespoon daily. Hopefully this will resolve within the next several weeks as her bottom heals up. Congratulations!
