Vit D deficiency: Tetany is caused by vitamin D deficiency, not overdose. Adverse effects associated with excessive vitamin D injection include weakness, headache, nausea, vomiting, muscle and bone pain. Later, frequent urination, thirst, weight loss, kidney problems, cardiac arrhythmias and, rarely, psychosis can occur.
