Technical: Most vitamin a is stored in the liver, some in fatty tissues, as retinol. When needed by the body, retinol combines with a plasma-specific transport protein, retinol-binding protein (rbp). The rbp-retinol complex is secreted into the blood where it combines with a larger protein transthyretin. The transthyretin-rbp-retinol complex circulates in the blood, delivering the retinol to tissues.
