Something wrong: Ventilation tubes inserted into the tympanic membranes should not hurt and if most of the middle ear fluid has been removed, your hearing should immediately improve. I am assuming that you had a middle ear effusion. You should not have pain and if your hearing is not improved, then either you did not have fluid or all of the fluid was not removed. Not uncommon for adults to have residual fluid.
