Xanthelasmata?: Accumulations of cholesterol under the skin appear yellow and are called xanthelasmata. These are benign but unsightly. They can be removed surgically by an oculoplastics surgeon, but a laboratory work-up for hyperlipidemia is indicated. Other possibilities include viral lesions, molluscum contagiosum, hordeola/chalazia, and so forth. See an ophthalmologist for a diagnosis and possible referral.
