It didn't ...: Your cold sore resolved on its own. Mupirocin is an antibiotic. It only works on bacteria. Cold sores are caused by viruses and antibiotics DO NOT work on viral infections. Mupirocin is also only supposed to be used on external bacterial skin infections and should never be used around the mouth. You are lucky you did not develop any adverse reactions. Sorry to have burst your bubble.

Cold sores: There is no cure for cold sores. However, some medications may relieve pain and soften HSV crusts on the skin. Denavir, (penciclovir) a topical antiviral cream recently cleared for marketing by the FDA that may decrease the duration of lesion pain and accelerate healing.
