Certainly!: Amputation sounds disastrous, but in certain circumstances it can be a major improvement or even life-saving. These are: rapidly progressing infections, terrible pain in the limb with all other options unsuccessful, and untreatable, non-healing wounds or deformities which make the limb less useful than a modern prosthesis.
