Prosthetic legs: There are big improvements in the artificial legs. They are lighter, easier to put on and take off. They are easier to adjust; still expensive. Control mechanisms: A lot of recent research has concentrated on finding ways to better control artificial arms. Some researchers are working to use the nerves left in the arm to control the prosthesis (targeted muscle reinnervation- tmr) others on using the brain signals to control the prosthesis. Sounds sci-fi but it is not these days! tmr trained physicians are doing surgeries at various centers in the us.
