A member asked:

I went to a doctor a few days ago. i was told that i tore the ligaments connecting my ribs to my sternum and popped a rib out of its socket. is this something that could possible benefit from seeing a chiropractor to essentially pop it back in place?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rib injury: I don't recommend any manipulation of the injured area. True rib dislocation is probably not present. Continue with treatment advice and follow-up by your physician. Avoid stressing the injured area. Alternating cold and warm applications help the discomfort. If you're having continued severe pain, I recommend consulting a thoracic surgeon for evaluation and treatment of this rib cage injury.
