What happens when esophagitis isuntreated?

Damage: The esophagus is damaged which can lead to scar tissue forming. This can cause difficulty swallowing. Also, ongoing damage to the esophagus is thought to cause precancerous changes to occur in the esophagus which, over time, could lead to esophageal cancer.
