Surgeons LoveTo Cut: That's a good question. If you see a surgeon in his office, he is more apt to investigate symptoms and possibly order tests. If he is seeing you in the hospital, he will if he is the primary doctor seeing you. But if he is consulted by another doctor then he may submit his recommendations to the doctor who asked him to see the patient. And, yes, most surgeons mainly just like to do surgery

They do it all: General surgeons are fully trained physicians specializing in conditions that are treated primarily by surgery. They certainly can investigate symptoms and order tests, that's an every day activity. They are not just technicians who perform surgery.
