Not from handjob: Reactive arthritis results from an abnormal immune reaction to any of several infections. The most common trigger is chlamydia, but various intestinal infections also are frequent causes. Many cases occur without any known infection to start it. The hand-genital exposure you describe has nothing to do with it. Continue to work with your rheumatologist about treatment. Good luck!
