Usually not unless-: -there was a fracture. Then sometimes you need to protect the bones from excess stress. Being young most of trust a cast more than you. Good luck.

Surgeons preference: It is related often to surgeon preference and the specifics of the case. If it was felt that removing screws would significantly increase your risk of fracture, then cast would be used. If not, then a soft dressing is most commonly used. Thank you for the question.
