In people with diabetes type 1 and mental illness, can the mental issues go away with treatment of diabetes?

No: Insulin is not an effective treatment for depression, anxiety, ADHD or other psychiatric conditions. However, treating one's diabetes will make them feel physically and psychologically better

Separate issue: People with mental illness can have appendicitis, flu, diabetes, arthritis, etc. just like the rest of the population. Getting diabetes under control does not change their other issues. While many with a chronic illness are stressed, it doesn't cause and diabetic control will not "cure" it.
