Ask more re surgery: Perhaps you misunderstood your doctor. It can be done in the office (at times) but a local anaesthetic is typically used.

Family practice : Sometimes this treated by cryosurgery after a biopsy. If it is not deep he can numb it with a gel and freeze you cervix like we do a wart on a hand. If he feels it is needed don't delay treatment.
