Probably not: Ask your dentist to check the area under a special light, called a velscope, which is used to detect cancer early. Gums do not typically get lumpy for no reason.

Yes it could: Certainly a lumpy could be nothing, but is your dentist sure? Don"t you want to know for sure? When our doctors cannot identiify the exact cause of a lump, bump, red or white spot, we send them to an oral surgeon for a second opinion and sometimes a biopsy. It is better to know.

Is it hard?: If the lump is hard it could be a tori which is a natural bony part. If you are concerned you should asked to be referred to an oral surgeon.

Possibly....: If I were you I would ask the dentist for more time to ask your questions. Your dentist may not realize you still have concerns about this. Your dentist may not realize you still have questions.

Lumpy area: talk to your dentist about this area. This could be a harmless lump but your dentist should be able to tell you what it is and give you a reasonable explanation. If your dentist does not do,this get a second opinion from another dentist or oral surgeon.
