Infection: There are different types of eyelid infections. A common cause is known as a stye or chalazion. There are different types of these lesions with different treatments. Check your local area to see if an eye doctor could see you now so you do not suffer over the easter weekend. Good luck and feel better.

Warm compresses: Sounds like a sty.Warm compresses (wash cloth with hot water and hold it on the sty for 5-10 minutes, reheating as needed). A sty is due to the orifice of an oil gland (mebomian gland) in the eyelid margin becoming inflamed, and is not an infection, so antibiotics are not indicate. It could be more serious like inflammatory orbital psuedo tumor.

Go see your doctor: Swelling of eye lid suggests infection like stye. If headache is in same area as eyeball w/bulging, we worry about orbital cellulitis, especially if it's painful to look around & you see double images (diplopia). Therefore, it's imperative that you get evaluated now rather than wait to see if it goes away on its own. Warm compresses are good for infection while ice is recommended for injuries.

Serious infection: This can be a localized collection of pus, an anterior cellulitis or signs of an infection that is going to go backward and can lead to the need for hospitalization as an emergency for life saving antibiotic administration. You need emergency evaluation.
