Airborne allergies: High ige tends to indicate you have allergies, most commonly to airborne things like ragweed. Be aware that a negative food allergy test does not mean you don't have food allergies, only that you don't have ones mediated by ige (which tend to be obvious, like hives right after eating). Most food allergies are mediated by igg & can cause symptoms like headaches & joint pains hours later.See comment:.

IgE elevated: Ige is the allergic antibody, in the United States. Being elevated simply means that you are at increased risk of having any sort of allergic reaction compared to someone with a normal level. But elevation does not mean a reaction will happen...Just increased risk of reaction.

Doesn't mean much: Elevated total serum ige (the allergic antibody) is elevated in patients with allergic asthma, eczema (atopic dermatitis), abpa (allergic aspergillosis), and immune deficiency called hyper ige syndrome. It frequently is not elevated in food allergy alone or even allergic rhinitis. Specific ige levels to foods, pollens, dust, etc is really more helpful than total ige.
