Could be allergy..: Most of the time eye itchiness signifies allergy in the eye, but heavy green/yellow discharge is not normal for allergy and may be from an infection that requires antibiotics. You can try over-the-counter drops like alaway and zaditor, (ketotifen) but if they don't do the trick, you're better off going to an eye md (ophthalmologist) to get stronger prescription drops to help with the inflammation/infection.

Infection: This can be a secondary viral or bacterial infection that can also have been released by having the flu and affecting your body's ability to fight infections. You need to see an eye md.
