NO- it is TOXIC!!!: I believe that aspartame is toxic, should never have been approved & is a significant health hazard. It creates many side effects & causes obesity! see http://articles.Mercola.Com/sites/articles/archive/2010/07/31/aspartame-update.Aspx & http://articles.Mercola.Com/sites/articles/archive/2009/10/13/artificial-sweeteners-more-dangerous-than-you-ever-imagined.Aspx i never consume aspartame.

Yes but . . .: If you believe in the food & drug administration, then aspartame is healthy. After all, it's used daily in numerous products and we haven't linked any outcomes to its use (aside from avoidance in phenylketonurics). But if you want controversy, you can find plenty by searching online for conspiracy & pay offs, etc. Who's right? I don't know. Depends upon who you ask and what s/he has to gain . .

More than sugar!!: Sugar is grandfathered in & if it (fructose) had to go through the same trials aspartame, it would likely have never been approved. On the other hand it is does not commonly occur in nature. Yet simple sugars are also rare in nature, in any concentrated form. Sugar is claimed to be healthy because extracted from stuff grown to satisfy human sugar fix, a cheap way to sell processed foods!
