Where?: The aorta starts at the heart in the chest and extends to below the belly button-umbilicus. Abdominal, infra renal is more common sit o aneurysm dilation. 4 cm is abnormal and should be reevaluated at 6 month intervals by ct or ultrasound- more common and less risk. Aortic Aneurysms: It will likely show growth over a 7 year period. The median growth rate for abdominal aortic aneurysms is 3 to 4 mm per year, so they typically growth relatively slowly. Controlling hypertension can decrease growth rate. You should have close surveillance with ultrasound every 6-12 months, as there are occasions or more rapid growth. If have rapid growth or > 5.5cm diameter, it will need repair.
