A member asked:

Is it safe to bathe a newborn if their cord hasn't fallen off yet? why not?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Keep cord dry: The general teaching is to keep the area around the umbilical cord dry. This is to reduce the risk of infection. The cord usually falls off before 2 weeks of age. It is fine to give the newborn a bath with a wash cloth.
