Prozac (fluoxetine) & Venlafaxine: At initial doses, venlafaxine has mostly serotonergic effects (like Prozac (fluoxetine) does). Prozac (fluoxetine) is also quite long-acting so that it will still be in your system for some time after changing to venlafaxine. At higher doses, venlafaxine will also affect norepinephrine receptors. Ask your doctor, but it sounds like this is a cross-taper from Prozac (fluoxetine) to venlafaxine and you should be okay stopping prozac (fluoxetine).
