Are there any non-surgical options for kidney cancer?

Less Invasive Yes: Cryoablation/radiofrequency ablation--needle through the skin into the tumor freezing/burning the tumor. Otherwise progression is expected. If you are 46 you should seriously consider having surgery. Without extension (or mets), surgery is associated with great results with only a 10% per year recurrence rate and no requirement for chemotherapy. Chemo is generally not given without surgery.

Several: Several approaches used short of surgical resection of a kidney tumor. it depends on size of lesion. Chemo-embolization, by injecting chemotherapy directly into the renal artery can be used. For RT, Cyberknife treatment covers a larger field than gamma knife also available in lesions smaller than 6 cm. Recent interventional cryoablation data show near 100 percent control.in the smaller tumor
