Nonweightbearing: When I have a patient that has to much swelling in the cam boot. I ask them to go nonweightbearing for a week. I use the rice protocol (rest, ice, compression (nonwweightbearing in splint), and elevation). I incorporate nsaids with Ibuprofen 800mg bid as well. If it still persists an xray or ultrasound might be necessary.

Elevate: Try to elevate your foot and if continuous, call your doctor.

Crutches elevation: If your foot/ankle hurts when walking on it in a cast use crutches. Maybe too early to walk on it if it is swelling elevation higher than your heart can help.
