Unusual but yes: A seemingly normal thyroid gland could develop cancer, but that is unusual, particularly with no previous exposure to radiation.

Atypical?: If you mean "atypical", it depends upon where you get that term -- from exam, x-ray, lab, biopsy, ? If you have anything atypical about your thyroid (or any other part of your body for that matter) it should be monitored on a regular basis by someone with medical knowledge and training --a doctor.
