Gum disease: You either have an infection in your gums or a tooth. You must see a dentist asap as any infection can cause problems in other areas of your body plus it can also lead to tooth loss. Most likely you have calculus on your root surfaces which causes the gums to swell, bleed and become unattached to the teeth and bone. Then when you eat you can get things such as popcorn shells into the gums.

See a dentist: When is the last time you have had an examination and a professional cleaning? If most of your mouth is swollen and bleeding, then it appears you are suffering from gingivitis or even periodontitis. A single area could be an infection from a tooth. Either way you need to see a dentist.
